Welcome to NEWRAD 2011

This year, The 11th International Conference on New Developments and Applications in Optical Radiometry (NEWRAD 2011) will be convened at The Grand Wailea Resort on the island of Maui, Hawaii.  This venue is large enough to accommodate all participants at one conference facility, yet intimate enough to promote interaction with colleagues throughout your stay.

The NEWRAD Conference covers all aspects of optical radiation measurements and a wide range of topics will be presented during our five day program.  The specific themes of NEWRAD 2011 are Earth Observation and Few Photon metrology.  Half-day sessions are devoted to both of these specific themes.

Wailea, Maui is somewhat off the beaten path, located on the southern, leeward side of the island.  As such, the Grand Wailea Resort offers a wide range of visitor activities on site.  Maui is however a relatively small island, so you will find there are numerous unique opportunities for additional recreation, sightseeing and shopping within a short driving distance from the resort.

In addition to our ambitious presentation schedule, we have organized a few special excursions that we hope will be of interest to all participants.  We will are planning a group trip to the Haleakala High Altitude Observatory with a tour of Science City.  Social events include a Welcome Mixer, Hawaiian Luau and a Sunset Cruise.  The trip to the summit of Haleakala and tours of the cutting edge observatories should be especially rewarding experiences.

I wish you all a productive conference experience and an enjoyable trip to Hawaii.

Aloha,

Mark Yarbrough, Local Organizing Committee Chairman
